Diablo 4 currently lacks a time frame for release, but it's likely to arrive sometime in the first half of 2023. It appears that Diablo 4 fans who are curious to find out when they can play the game ought to tune into The Game Awards in December.
Diablo 4's world can allow players to take a break and resume the story at any time, however, while this will "allow to allow for non-linearity" the story will be told with "a beginning with a middle and an end".
Ahead of an interview for IGN, Diablo 4 director Joe Shely and general manager Rod Fergusson opened up on what Diablo 4 has for fans of the franchise, as well as give a little insight into how the game's story mechanics will differ from the Diablo games that came before it.
"One of the concerns about having 'open-world' displayed in an enormous neon and flashing that sign is that people have that belief that Breath of the Wild and think, 'oh, it's completely organic and I'm free to roam around and do whatever'" Fergusson said, as transcribing by NME.
"That's not really our story. Our story is non-linear however, there is some story to tell - we wanted to have an beginning, middle, and end.
"You can actually not pursue the story for long This is the good thing with the open-world," Fergusson added. "There's a lot of side quests, a lot of things you can do that aren't along the golden path."
Rumours suggest that Blizzard may be set to release Diablo 4 in April 2023. According to reports recently, Diablo 4's tentative "2023" release date can be cut down to April, with early access reportedly launching in February and pre-orders being available as early as the month of April.
