DirectX 11 has launched with every Windows version since Windows 7 and many games have relied on it during the past 10 years. Certain users have complained that surfaces and lighting aren't always as smooth when using DX11 and that's the reason why IRONMACE, the developer, offers the option of a different look.
Like many other items in the beta it's possible that IRONMACE is using this opportunity to see what is working and what isn't. It appears that it was delayed only a few days prior to the launch of the playtest in February which is why many participants were confused about the reason it was even included.
The game isn't bad in either of the two options, however it's unclear if it's an ongoing feature. Expect more visual improvements and features to improve the game's performance or run more smoothly, since the game's developer has shown it will not ruin the excitement for this game. In an awkward situation, a competitor accused Surefour of "cheating" in a nearby voice chat, after he made a dash around a corner, and dealt an unintentional blow to his opponent. In response to the accusations Surefour explained how he knew the person was in the corner. He even observed that the person used proximity chat to reveal his whereabouts.
"No not at all I was able to see him disappear into stealth due to the aftermath image and then I watched that you did it immediately after that, and you were making use of your voice," he said. When he realized that his accusation was not true the other participant tried to argue with Surefour by asking him to do him an "favor." "Can You take a slap?" the other player stated. When the words came out from the mouth of Surefour, he ran and shouted "no honour among thieves" when he swarmed at the victim, causing them to die to break up the awkward and hilarious stalemate that ensued from an exchange.
