Diablo Immortal is the sequel to Diablo II

They start out at a reasonable $1 per bundle and quickly rise to $20. If I bought each bundle the game offered, I would lose $46 at the time of writing. If I bought that in addition to the battle passes, it would cost me $91. Keep in mind that the first three Diablo games can be purchased for $70 and played as much as you want.

To Blizzard's credit, none of this is necessary, and I anticipate that most people will not. But you'll have to put up with a lot of repetitive work instead, and you'll start to wonder how valuable your time is.

Diablo Immortal is the sequel to Diablo II. In order to prevent the demon lord Diablo and his cohorts from posing a threat to the fantasy world of Sanctuary, the archangel Tyrael destroyed the Worldstone: an object with a lot of power. Shards of the Worldstone are currently being sought out by the excess powers of Misery for their own pitiful purposes. As a brave adventurer, you team up with Deckard Cain, a regular scholar, to gather the Worldstone shards and destroy them before the new demon lord Skarn can get his hands on them.

I have mixed feelings regarding Diablo Immortal's plot. It shows a lot of respect for the lore of the franchise by picking up right where Diablo II left off and setting up what will happen in Diablo III. Characters like Xul the Necromancer and King Leoric of Tristram will make cameo appearances, and you'll learn more about the cities and civilizations of Sanctuary.
