I originally believed NBA 2K23's scores would be favorable
This includes all five starters and new additions like Jalen Brunson and bench players like Obi Toppin as well as Derrick Rose.Going into this year's edition of the famous basketball simulation, I originally believed NBA 2K23's scores would be favorable to those who play for the Chicago Bulls after a bounceback year that saw them earn two All-Star bids in Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan as well as an All-Rookie Selection with Ayo Dosunmu. And even an All-NBA selection for DeRozan.
It's a shame that I was more incorrect. There are a number of players on the Chicago Bulls have been docked points off their ratings in comparison to this year, with nobody earning a '90' overall ranking or higher.15 players in the league earned a 90 or better, suggesting that the overall consensus in teams is that Bulls lack a true player who could take Chicago to winning. Except for Chicago's AllStar team, 2K seems overall dismissive of the talent present on the roster.
Despite the fact Michael Jordan graces the front cover, NBA 2K23 couldn't be more off in its assessment of how great these current Chicago Bulls are.2K has four current Bulls players who are ranked among the top 100 players in the game. DeRozan and LaVine have the 19th and 23rd places respectively, while Nikola Vucevic is ranked No. 59 and Lonzo Ball comes at the top of the list, ranked No. 73. A bit surprising, Andre Drummond is rated as Chicago's fifth best player. He only barely makes the cut.
After that, the team's ratings as a whole are a trainwreck. The Bulls backcourt suffers the brunt of the damage, as Alex Caruso, Coby White, and Dosunmu have been all slashed one spot, when the consensus suggests they'll be much better next year. Dosunmu's 76 overall rating is particularly shocking, given that he recently earned All-Rookie recognition. The rookie All-Rookie 2nd Team guard Josh Giddey posted roughly equal numbers to Dosunmu (and was overshadowed by Ayo in head-to-head matchups) as a starting guard, but was awarded a much higher 82 overall score.
The rookie Dalen Terry has been given a shambolic 71 overall rating, which puts Terry below the likes from former Bulls Matt Thomas, Denzel Valentine, Troy Brown Jr. along with Tomas Satoransky. Three of these players aren't even in an NBA roster and the fourth is an unofficial "prove the idea" contract that will shortly be joined by the other three should he not step up to the occasion.
