Blizzard recently announced WoW's upcoming brand new expansion Dragonflight is scheduled for coming out before the end of 2022.

Next World of Warcraft expansion, Dragonflight is now available for pre-order. In a surprise most players didn't anticipate the expansion is also scheduled to launch before the closing of 2022.

Four different editions of Dragonflight are available to preorder: a $50 standard edition and a $70 heroic edition as well as a $90 epic edition and an actual collector's edition of $130 (which includes everything digital from this epic version). The standard edition includes an in-game pet and an expansion itself, with higher-priced editions that include extras such as a level boost game time, a special mount, and various cosmetics. The preorders mention that the expansion will be released "on or before the 31st of December, 2022."

This news is shocking for fanswho were hoping for the game to launch in 2023 or early 2023. given the timeframe for release for previous expansions, a planned prequel novel, and the fact that an alpha version of Dragonflight is not yet available to test on the game's public test realm. When Blizzard made the announcement of the new expansion in April, it was careful not to include a date or even a release window for Dragonflight as well, with WoW director of games Ion Hazzikostas stating Blizzard was using a "when it's ready" approach to the expansion's release.
