Some of the best moments in PC gaming are small-sized celebrations from our favorite gaming memories. Before I had any idea of the workings of computers, I had been playing World of Warcraft.

The Dark Portal, your doorway into the unknown was constructed in The Blasted Lands, a zone that was still very scary as a high-level character. It was necessary to sneak past monsters wielding huge axes before you could reach the stone steps leading to the portal. The huge, swirling portal with the cloaked figures holding it up looked at you upon entering, as if in any moment, they could decide that you aren't worthy to enter their realm.
After I had walked through The Dark Portal, the bright expanse of Outland was poured out in front of me. The vibrant purple sky faded into the mountains of orange on Hellfire Peninsula.
For someone who had little exposure to the cosmic side of Warcraft in the early days the scene was captivating. The moment that fantasy collided with sci-fi may have been the time the specific mix of themes in the visual world first introduced into my brain in which it has remained ever since, rekindled with the help of parts of Elden Ring.
Hellfire Peninsula looks red hot and looks like it's about burst into flames. Apart from having tons of details in the natural world but it also was encased with cracks that released fire every couple of seconds.
Each time a blast was fired, my graphics card chugged and my frame rate dipped to single digits. However, being a young person and completely inexperienced with PC gaming, I thought my game's transformation into a PowerPoint program was usual and only enhanced the effect.
