While these activities may be moderately relaxing, it's time spent doing the same things over and again - time that could or might not be better spent playing through some shorter but no less classic video games.
Rather than being one straight combat, RuneScape is a painstaking war of attrition that is lengthy and tiring and which never truly ends. However, it's very rewarding if you're willing to devote the time to it, as I was. At the very least, for a whole year or so.
I've never played any MMORPGs until now, to my eternal shame and loss. There are so many real-life concerns and I don't have time to allow them to entice me. In all the games I've played, they're by far the most time-consuming, having infinite levels to complete and items to collect. There have been deaths during or at the end of hours-long binge sessions of the game's younger, but less popular sibling World of Warcraft, which could also make it an eerie game.
On a typical day, I typically find me having fun playing Quake and Half-Life or playing Team Fortress 2 - games that are always in high demand leave their marks and are quickly gone. It's great to be able to play something I enjoy and put aside quickly, instead of having to worry about how many logs of wood are in my inventory , or what I'm likely to fish during the next session.
However, I'm still missing a bit of the constant grind as well as longer-term commitment (and pain) which comes with RuneScape. Now in its third incarnation called 'RuneScape 3' (from 2013) with more content and a visual revamp, there's a hint of hope I'll be able to revisit it just to see what's happening, similar to how I would visit an old friend.
Publisher Jagex has announced earlier in the year that RuneScape will release early access on mobile sometime this summer. From today, everyone can enjoy RuneScape, the longest-running MMORPG playing on iOS as well as Android.
RuneScape is free to play. However, members have access to additional games, abilities, and bonuses. You can test out the subscription for free during a the trial period of seven days. The mobile versions support cross-play and cross-progression on PC So you are able to switch between the two platforms and then continue from where you have left off.
Make note that this does not include Old School RuneScape, a version that's based off a build of 2007. The game has been accessible to download for iOS and Android since the beginning of 2018. It's the complete RuneScape that Jagex has been constantly in the last 20 years.
