June 16th has been a whirlwind for both RuneScape 3 (RS3) and Old School RuneScape (OSRS). From a long‑overdue character facelift to a graveyard of 620 million bots.

RS3: Digging Up Secrets Under a Moonrise

Archaeology fans, rejoice! The Moonrise excavation site has officially opened. Unlocked after completing the "Secrets of Amberfell" quest and reaching level 52 Archaeology, this eerie new area brings 15 fresh artefacts, five cryptic mysteries, and a brand‑new soil type. Reward highlights include: a Hungry Wolf Relic that can enhance the healing effect of food and remove negative effects, and a Moonstone Ring that can greatly enhance attack and disrupt defense. Puzzle solvers can also snag an exclusive pet override. It's a perfect excuse to dust off your mattock and hunt for lunar lore.

A Decade Later: Character Models Finally Get a Makeover

We've all made jokes about RuneScape's blocky limbs but not for much longer. RS3 just rolled out its biggest character model overhaul in ten years. Heads, torsos, and animations have been modernised, giving players a sleeker, more expressive look without losing that classic RuneScape charm. Alongside this, the Grand Exchange is getting a long‑awaited UI preview on June 17th, and an API deep dive follows on June 18th. Our avatars are finally growing up.

OSRS: 620 Million Bots Banned and The Blood Moon Rises

Over in Old School land, Jagex dropped a bombshell: they've nuked over 620 million bots to date. The effect on the economy is already noticeable resources feel valuable again, and real players are breathing easier. But that's not all. The long‑teased master‑level quest, "The Blood Moon Rises," arrives June 30th. It introduces a whole new region and a solo boss fight that promises to shake up the lore. Between the bot purge and a looming blood moon, OSRS is suddenly feeling a lot more dangerous and a lot fairer.

Dragonwilds: From Early Access to Full‑Fledged Survival

Don't forget the spin‑off! RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the survival adventure that launched into early access, will officially leave early access on September 15th. And before that, on June 23rd, the "Umbral Sands" expansion drops adding a massive desert zone and a formidable new challenge. It's shaping up to be the perfect bridge for RuneScape fans who want to survive, craft, and fight in a more open‑ended world.

What's Next

With a live developer stream on Moonrise happening tonight (17:00 BST), three major content drops in the next two weeks, and a bot‑free economy finally within reach, today's RuneScape feels more alive than ever. Whether you're an archaeologist, a quest hunter, or a survivor in Dragonwilds, grab your gear. The next update is already casting its shadow.
