Ten years prior, Venezuela, a petrostate under the administration Hugo Chavez, witnessed a collapse in oil prices. in 2017, the cost for a barrel plunged to around $50, down from a record high of more than $100, and there was a resurgence in sanctions against Venezuela. U.S. instituted wide-ranging sanctions against the country's authoritarian regime.
"When oil prices began to decline in the early 2000s, there was not enough funds to import goods," said Alejandro Velasco who is a Professor at New York University who specializes in Venezuelan politics, in an interview on the phone. "As a result that there was not enough cash to keep the economy going."
Venezuela's bank accounts were empty after the country spent its most recent oil profits for social services such as subsidised food, medical care, and literacy programs. Chavez also exiled perceived dissenters from the oil industry after an attempted coup attempt, which affected production.
A widespread system of corruption in the government further damaged the economy, as per Paul Angelo, a fellow at the Council for Foreign Relations who has a specialization in Latin American politics.
Runescape producer Jagex has put an end with Runelite HD, a fan-made HD mod for the popular open-source client of Old School Runescape, just at the time the project was scheduled to launch last Monday. The sudden change has some Runescape fans decrying Jagex's decision, and insisting that they will move into other online games.
Runelite HD Developer "117" posted to Reddit Tuesday, sharing the message that he received from Jagex that was later acknowledged by Jagex in the company's own blog article. Runelite HD operates as a plugin that can provide an extensive visual overhaul to the foundation game Runescape as seen at 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 also said that they've spent around 2,000 hours over the last two years developing Runelite HD.
