Square Enix's HD-2D games have gotten
Square Enix's HD-2D games have gotten a lot of positive interest from gamers. The games like Octopath Traveler or Triangle Strategy have really captured the attention of retro enthusiasts partially due to their unique art style.
In a new interview with 4Gamer (translated by Nintendo Everything), Triangle Strategy producer Tomoya Asano talked about the aesthetic of the graphics and the way it's being implemented in future games developed by the company.
When the interviewer expressed shock that indie game developers haven't taken on the same design, Asano revealed the reason the reason is because it's expensive!
"It's probably worth noting that it's priced higher than you'd think. It's an excellent fit for the titles that you'd like to see from Square Enix. There's likely to be little to gain from companies that copy it," Asano told 4gamer.Fortunately the cost doesn't hinder Square Enix from releasing more games with this design.
One of the remakes for Live a Live is set for release exclusively on Nintendo Switch in July, as a remake of Dragon Quest III is currently in the process of being made. There are many other games which could benefit from this style, and it'll be interesting to see how Square Enix does with HD-2D next.
