OSRS is also celebrating its 9th anniversary
It's the reason OSRS Gold The Beginning 20 Years isn't just essential reading for anyone who is a fan of this game. It's also essential for everyone who is interested in what direction gaming time is moving in. It's a reminder that we need to support the indie gaming scene which is constantly competing for attention in a massive marketplace.
But most of all is it a reminder to be happy with that humble beginning. The gaming industry could seem as a completely disgusting and vile place often (because it often is) However, at the heart of it all it's a place where there are enthusiastic developers with a rich experience to bring to us.
Many of us have lovely childhood memories of playing around Gielinor Not because some giant company sold us the product, but because three brothers shared a passion and parents who believed in their children. They are the ones we should thank for these memories, not top executives at Amazon as well as Activision Blizzard.
Steamforged Games announced collaboration with game developers Jagex in order to launch RuneScape to tablet devices later this year. The MMORPG will be getting not one however, but two additional tabletop games: a tabletop game and a tabletop rpg game. The board game is expected to go live on Kickstarter in the coming year, while the tabletop RPG will go straight to retailers.
Both games draw inspiration from RuneScape's fantasy realm, Gielinor. They will use some of the same characters, stories, and locations which the MMORPG has made famous over its lengthy history. The game on the board will take one or five people on a quest-based campaign through the world of Gielinor.
As per the press release of Steamforged the players will "craft and upgrade equipment, upskill their characters, prepare special meals, interact with NPCs and test their abilities while exploring different regions of the world". Just as with the online MMORPG, players are also likely to encounter side-quests that expand the world of the game.
While the TTRPG will consist of the most beautiful and illustrated core book filled with the necessary information required by players to run the RuneScape TTRPG. With it, players can build their own characters as they set off for the lands of Gielinor to embark on "unique and thrilling quests". In addition, the TTRPG base book will be "fully aligned with rules of fifth edition of the world's favorite tabletop role-playing game".
This is the first time that RuneScape will be accessible in a different way than a digital one It's something Jagex chief executive Phil Mansell is excited about:
"After the more than 21-year period only available digitally, it's amazing to be working with Steamforged to design and publish RuneScape game-based adventures for tabletop games...I am confident that RuneScape along with Old School RuneScape players will be excited to get their hands on the miniatures planned to make their own adventure."
