It was also when we began becoming friends with girls, and I'm sure that affected a lot of my friends to stop. It was about then actually I discovered Sal's place and decided to join in the group to keep some kind of social interaction, so it wasn't all bad.
An old flatmate of mine helped me to get involved in WoW after I had quit RS. Like my RS-related secret life I don't think I've ever shared with my friends. They're not bad people (despite the way I'm making them sound ) and wouldn't ostracise me or anything but there would definitely be a lot of jokes told.
Although I be with you on being "just another video game", we must not forget that multiplayer online gaming, particularly RPGs, will always be viewed as a negative in the real world.
I had some acquaintances who made me feel that way. However, they weren't perfect. I have a girlfriend whom i love and live in. She knows that i play and even uses her F2P account on occasion. I found that at the end of my teens, it was considered taboo to tell people know that you were a player (few students would participate in my programming classes and they got flamed A LOT by other students, and even by the instructor.) But it seems that it is now more accepted. I'm not sure if it is due to my maturity or aging. It doesn't seem as if it's a game for teenagers any more than it was just a few years ago.
