Firstly, I would like to define what family is. In my opinion, family is composed of people to whom we are related whether we like it or not. That means that even if we happend to have a disdain for our family, we are somehow connected. That indicates a thesis which say that we should not take against our family without having a reason of crucial importance. On the other hand, it is understanable that parents annoy their children and vice versa, because it is mostly a conflict of different generations which is always hard to prevent from happening.
Now, I would like to outline some types of family structures.
1. If we are brave enough to face the truth, we find out that the traditional extended family with lots of relatives is a matter of the past.Unfortunatelly, Even the ordinary nuclear family which consists of two parents and children is dissappearing. And why is that? Well, since the law made it much more easier to get divorced, the number of divorces has increased rapidly. In fact, nowadays one marriage in every three ends with divorce. But we would be naive if we thought that its only caused by law. The truth is, I think, that the legislation only opened a door for people to live their lifes their own way, which means that people do not feel obligated to marry someone right away and instead, they prefer to live by their own rules and to experience life as much as they can. That combined with todays trends like feminims, workoholism and materialism creates an attitude towards life that especially older people define as disrespectful to tradition. Its really a complicated question to answer, but after having thought it through many times, it just seems to me as a stage of evolution.
2. Nowadays, the most prevalent type of family is a cohabitating couple. In other words, two people who are in love live together without being keen on entering into marriage. I cant see anything bad at it. To be honest, I truly think that this should be a preparation for marriage which shouldnt be skipped. It is a wonderful time when two people can find out whether they are or are not compatible.
3. The opposite of that is single parent. The appelation if this term indicates its meaning, single mother or less often single father takes care of children. Mostly, conditions for raising children in this background are acceptable but not the best. It is caused by the finance, one parent cannot earn as much money as two can unless he is a billionaire, which means that the family cannot afford as much as it did before. On the grounds of those facts, I assume that single parents should receive allowance to be able to cover all necessary expenses.
4. Recently, there has been an influx of homosexuals who want to enter a civil partnership. In oir country, they are entitled to do that, but i tis not the same legal act as marriage. Whats the difference? Community property is not established between people of the same sex, What does it mean? When they decide to terminate the relaionship, they do not have to split their property, which they have gained while they were married, into halves. In the czech republic, same-sex couples are forbidden to bring up children. There has been a heated discourse on this topic. As I said, I have no objections to registered partnership, but a couple like that should not be allowed to raise children. Why? There are many aspects which need to be taken into consideration, but there is no doubt, that there is a high probability of children being ostracized by their contemporaries for being raised by homosexuals.
Now, I would like to move on and speak about family ceremonies and traditions.
1. I honestly think that the most majestit family celebration is when someone is getting married, speaking from my personal experience, it can get extraordinarly emotional. When my mum was getting married, I was the one who cried the most, not her. Anyway, It is a huge step, right. One must know that he is capable of baring that kind of commitment. On the other hand, despite all those buts and ifs, it should represent a step towards a better stage of life.
2. And very often, wedding is most of the times a forerunner of having a baby. Another great commitment. It is gratifying to observe a situation where all members of a family are looking forward to finally seing their son, daugher, son in law, granddaughter or nephew.
3. Another special, but nowadays dissappearing tradition is a collective observance of
holiday. Not only is it a great opportunity to visit our relatives and make them happy, but it also offers us a chance to run away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lifes and to unwind. People usually talk and share their life with each other which is a crucial measure of building stable and intimite relationships. Whats more, it is mostly fun to talk about thigns that has happened to us.
