1. Why do we eat/drink?
Firstly, I would like to say why do we, mankind, eat. It is obvious that we consume food beacuse we like it, which means that normály we wouldnt even bother to eat anything which is not in our taste. In fact, we must eat. In other words, anything we eat gives us energy we so desperately need. What is more, we wouldnt last for 3 days without water. This is mainly caused by the fact that water plays a great role in many chemical reactions throughout our bodies.
2. What are the most needed components of nourishment?
Now I would like to tell you what are the most needed components of nourishment. We could basically say, that there are 3 main agents of our nourishment – proteins, carbohydrates and fats, but we must not forget about vitamins, minerals and water.
Proteins help our body with building muscles and regenerating tissue. It can be found predominantly in meat, which is the main source of proteins, but also in dairy products such as cheese, milk Cottage cheese, or in legume, for example in lentil.
Carbohydrates are the fastest source of energy. They are contained in rice, potatoes and pasta in their healthier form. They can also be found in chocolate, cakes and many other sweets.
Fats are as well an indispensable part of our nutrition. They help us dissolve vitamins and are necessary for the proper function of the brain. They occur in sunflower oil, butter, smoked meats, nuts and cheese.
Vitamins and minerals are undoubtedly of crucial importance. They take part in many chemical reactions in our body as well as water does and they also help our organs to function in the right way. They can be found in fruit and vegetable.
3. How to eat, meals of the day
Now, I would like to mention the right way to eat. If we want our body and brain to work as they should, we need to consume food on a regular basis so that the body and the brain wont feel tired. How to do that? Well, we should have atleast three nutritionally rich and balanced meals – breakfast, lunch and diner. Those should be interspersed with little snacks. What did I mean by rich and balanced? In essence, we should have an awareness of our daily intake of the components described above.
4. Different types of attitude towards nourishment(vegans, vegetarians, frutarians)
Lets talk about some of the attitudes towards nourishment.
Recently, there has been a influx of new approaches to nutrition. Almost everyone know a group called vegetarians who refuse to eat meat which is, meaning no offense, quite irreplaceable in human nutrition. Whats more, there also exist a group of people calles vegans who do not eat anything that was produced by animals. In other words, they only eat plants. But there are several different stances, such as frutarians who are not that world-wide known, but are much more interesting among other. They eat only fruit which is known for containing a lot of minerals and vitamins.
Honestly, I cant imagine myself being a member of any of those movements because I like meat very much and I know that I would not be able to persist in eating just plants instead of my beloved meat. But if I had to choose, I would become a frutarian. It would be the easiest way for me to quench the desire for meat and ham.
5. Favourite cusine
Lets move to my favourite cusine. I have to admit that I am a bit ambivalent about this, I have not a certain taste for a specific cusine because i am such a passionate foodie. But now, when I think about it, I assume that indian food is second to none. Not only is it mostly very spicy, which I adore, but it also full of undetectable flavours. As a side dish, you often get a naan, which is a traditional indian bread. On the other hand, I desperatelly love pizza and ice cream. When the time comes, I am brave enough to gulp down a whole family package of ice cream. My favourite flavour is peanut butter with little pieces of sweets inside.
6. Traditional czech food
In the Czech republic, there is a vast range of traditional meals which ranges from starters to desserts. I would like to mention a meal called Pickled sausage or floater. It is basically a sausage filled with onion marinated in a mixture of water, vinegear and seasoning. Then, we, the czechs, eat an enormous amount of cream sauce with dumplings and beef. My favourite czech finisher is apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and home made whipped cream. Beside those, the Czech republic is a household name in the realm of beer. Many truly delicious beers originate in my country, for example Pilsen, which is known and sold even in the asian world.
7. Where can we eat?
There are many places we can eat at, but nowadays the majority of people eat in fastfood restaurants such as McDonalds and KentuckyFriedChicken. I tis not very heatlhy, although i tis understandable that people want to save atleast a little bit of time in todays busy world. I personaly try to avoid eating in fastfoods, but the decision you make related to where you want to eat depends on your financial situation, so many people simply cant afford eating in restaurants. We can cook for ourselves, pack the food to boxes and save some money, but it requires effort and energy that many of us dont have.
8. Artificial food, Genetically modified food, Bio
Bio means that there were no chemical adds added into the food. Food marked with Bio label is much more expensive than normal food.
When we hear a term genetically modified food, it arouses a natural disdain. But nowadays, there is almost no food that has not been modified. If you ever had a popcorn, you can be absolutely sure that it was made from genetically modified corn. Recently, there has been a heated discourse on this topic because people were afraid of being ill due to eating some harmful genes. But it has been scientifically substantiated that there is nothing to be worried about when it comes to eating GMO.
9. Famine, obesity, bulimia, anorexia
Finally, I would like to talk about some neglected illnesess and social problems that are connected to food. First to metnion is famine. In the past few years, we managed to lessen the number of people rapidly, but there is still millions of people starving out there. Second to mention is obesity, which is an antidote to famine Anorexia of which I will talk about later. Obesity is a trend in todays postmodern and consumer society. People simply eat to much which causes them to be obese and overweight. Whats more, this is usually followed by hearth and central nervous systém ilnesses that can lead to death. Anorexia occurs especially among young ladies who are desperately keen on looking perfect. When they have the slightest feeling of being fat, they stop eating. They do not eat at all!
We can fight those problems by making others feel comfortable with their own body and by donating.
